Text Any textual data included in the document TO: Major K. R. Herbert Subject: W.E.B. DuBois Clubs of America After receiving information that W.E.B. DuBois Clubs of America were holding an organizational meeting at the University of Texas Student Union Building, Room 325, Tuesday, November 24, 1964 at 7:30 PM and that this Club was possibly a Communist front organization, Lts. Gerding and Phifer went to the Student Union to observe. Arrangements were made to have a non-police photographer to photograph as many of the persons in attendance as possible as well as photograph the principal speakers. TERRANCE HALLINAN, San Francisco, California, WM-27, son of VICTOR HALLINAN, 1952 Presidential Candidate of the Progressive Party, was the principal speaker. He is also west coast organizaer of the DUBois Clubs. He was sponsored by Hal Womack, University of Texas Student who resides locally at 1505 Brentwood. The ideals as put forth by these speakers were briefly; 1. Withdrawal of U.S. intervention in the domestic policies of other nations, particularly Viet Nam. 2. Free equality for all. 3. World without war. This meeting was attended by approximately fifteen persons. Some of those were identified as members of the right wing. Young Americans for Freedom, and other curious parties. Persons were requested to sign their names to a sheet of paper which went around the room. Only four persons signed their names. Those signing were HALLINAN, WOMACK, BOOKER T. BONNER, and LESLIE CHILDRESS, WF, approximately 22. Other persons associated with similar type organizations were present but not identified at this time. After the meeting, HALLINAN, WOMACK, BONNER and Mrs. CHILDRESS left together in a 1960 Ford Falcon, white color, 1964 Texas License FJ 5502 and drove to North Lamar and Brentwood where they picked up a six pack of beer at the Town and Country Store. They then went to 1505 Brentwood where they went inside. The Volvo vehicle belonging to TERRENCE HALLINAN and bearing 1964 California License CWX 391 was parked in front of this address. This vehicle was green color with a heavily damaged right rear fender. The 1960 Falcon FJ 5502 is registered to HARRY WOMACK, 1502 Thomas Place, Fort Worth, Texas.. A clipping from the Daily Texan date 11-24-64 is attached to this report. Copies of literature furnished by members of the Young Americans for Freedom and detailing HALLINAN’S alleged role in this organization are also attached to this report.
