The contents of the scrapbook highlight different initiatives the NAACP Youth Council took to fight for equal rights. In this collection specifically, the youth council documents an effort to raise awareness regarding an incident of police brutality against a student named Essein Essein. In the scrapbook, they included press coverage of the incident, as well as responses from organizations they hoped to engage in protest against the incident itself, such as the Southern Regional Council and the Highland Park Methodist Church. Next to the clipping, a member wrote the following: "The NAACP Youth Council made a thorough investigation of this case and proceeded to send letters and newspaper clippings to outstanding musicians and organizations. Many did not reply. Letters were sent to President Eisenhower and Bobby Graham."
