Her own story started in Oklahoma and mimicked those of the farmers she was hired to document arriving in tent camps in California. In 1937, the FSA was established and its goal was to aid these migrants settle into collective homesteads. The FSA is the origin of most of the photographs we associate with the Great Depression and Dust Bowl today. La Compañía Hernández-Villalongín was a traveling theatre troupe around the turn of 20th century. It was founded in 1848 by Encarnación Hernández. The company toured North Mexico and Texas over a period of 70 years (1848-1924). The company underwent multiple name changes when leadership changed, but Carlos Villalongín was a leading actor in the troupe for many years and the final company head. The company was comprised primarily of two families-the Hernández and Villalongín families, but employed additional outside actors as well. La Compañía Hernández-Villalongín was a traveling theatre troupe around the turn of 20th century. It was founded in 1848 by Encarnación Hernández. The company toured North Mexico and Texas over a period of 70 years (1848-1924). The company underwent multiple name changes when leadership changed, but Carlos Villalongín was a leading actor in the troupe for many years and the final company head. The company was comprised primarily of two families-the Hernández and Villalongín families, but employed additional outside actors as well. (Scherer) was born in San Fernando, CA, and grew up in the barrio of Pacoima, near Los Angeles. Her plays include Boxcar, the 1989 winner at the Multicultural Playwright's Festival with the Seattle Group Theatre, Alicia in Wonder Tierra (or, I Can't Eat Goat Head), Don't Promise, Los Matadores, U Got the Look, and Waiting Women. One of her lesser known plays, The Migrant Farmworker's Son, explores tensions in the family of a man and his wife who emigrated from Mexico to Arizona in the hopes of finding a better life.
