The Migrant Farmworker's Son explores tensions in the family of a man and his wife who emigrated from Mexico to Arizona in the hopes of finding a better life. We see Henry, the teenage son, dealing with questions and issues inherent in the challenge of living in dual cultures.

From the First to the Final Draft of the manuscript, there is evidence that Gonzalez developed the script to include more Spanish language dialogue to stress the broken cultural connection between Henry and his father and Henry and his roots.
