considered too "radical" or political for these conservative funding sources. As a result, we have decided to appeal to the community for partial funding. You can help us by offering a small contribution to this project. In return you will receive an invitation to the premier of the film in May, a listing in our program, and a listing in the credits of the film. This is an important opportunity for you to contribute to the documentation of a history that has been too long ignored. We cannot continue this vital project without the help of the community. The Chicana Research and Learning Center is a non-proftit organization dedicated to the improve of educational and social opportunities for His men and women. We feel that Colores y Visiones is an important educational tool for young Hispanics across the nation. No group is better suited for the project than Sueño Productions, a multi-cultural production company whose goal is to produce short films concerning social issues of importance today.
Sueño Productions is: • Gwen Mercado, Producer/Director
Producer of documentary films dealing with social issues on: the Salvation Army, Community law enforcement and immigration.
• Maria Cotera, Writer/Researcher
Was a member of the Crystal City community during the aftermath of the walkouts. Writer and Community advocate.
Karen Getchell, Technical Producer Production associate, Black History, Black
or the 1989 Wilder Gold Citation Award for
winner of the 1989 Wild Media Excellence.
Mexican American teenagers setting of hostage activists and politicos In 1969 a group of Mexican-American teens became heroes in the unlikely setting of a City. They held the educational system hostage and demanded the attention of activists and po from all over the state. They had simply demanded the right to speak Spanish, the right to compete in popularity contests, and ultimately, the right to be treated as well as their Anglo counterparts. Their battle cry punctuated the civil rights movement of the late sixties. The educ into the cc art show to school Colores a sense communi the film who feel encouraged within the THE FILM Colores Y Visiones : The Twentieth Year of La Raza Twenty years later, the members of this revolt reflect upon their lessons, their successes, their failures, and their hopes for the next twenty years. This December, a Raza Unida Party reunion will bring together these activists, educators, and community leaders. The film, Colores y Visiones will document the diverse personalities which made up the "movimiento." It will record the interaction between people who once stood together as an ideological whole and whom time and circumstance have now separated. The goal of Colores y Visiones is not only to remember our recent history, but also to forge a political future for Chicanos all over the U.S. This is an opportunity for all Chicanos to discuss and redefine our place in the community. The non-prc of edu men a is an i across project produced films Sueño . G @ THE ART SHOW O Art reflects the feeling of the time and gives us insight into the cultural changes that were taking place. The premier screening of the film will be accompanied by an exhibit of Raza Art created in the aftermath of the walkouts. The exhibit will include work by such artists as: Amado Peña, Carmen Lomas-Garza, and Jose Treviño.
