These documents consist of official correspondence from the University of Texas Board of Regents concerning the disciplinary appeals of six students, including Alice Embree, following an unauthorized anti-Vietnam War demonstration in April 1967. The protest had been organized in connection with a visit by Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey and resulted in disciplinary action by the university.

The letters, signed by Board of Regents chairman Frank C. Erwin Jr., outline the procedures for appeal and confirm that the students’ cases would be reviewed through formal administrative channels. At the same time, the correspondence makes clear that university leadership did not see grounds for recusal or reconsideration of authority, reinforcing the institution’s position in the conflict.

As part of the same archival file as contemporary newspaper coverage, these documents show how student protest was translated into bureaucratic process and illustrate the mechanisms through which dissent was managed, contained, and adjudicated by university administration.
