Title
Internee Correspondence Selection #1: Reflections on life at Crystal City
Subject
German internment during World War II; Fear and distress during internment; Remarks after Release
Description
The following is a selection of a letter written to James O'Rourke, the officer in charge of the Crystal City Internment Camp, after the internee's release. In this letter, the Friedrich recalls how downtrodden he felt during his time at Crystal City, as well as O'Rourke's role in helping him through it. Reminiscing on how internment affected him, he writes how, it was "no enviable life," and made him "so discomposed, it got [him] down in this state of mind." Simultaneously, he says that his fears were for nothing, and everything worked out fine and that O'Rourke helped him get through his time in internment.
