TEST YOUR R.I. A. Role- Independent Assessments
Pick your most likely reaction, it you were in the given situation. Circle the phrase or action that sounds most like you.
*********************
You have been waiting 5 minutes at a busy airline counter to be attended to by the ticket agent. Your plane began boarding 5 minutes ago, and you are worried about finding comfortable seat with room to store your bulky carry-on. The woman behind the counter finishes waiting on a man who arrived the same time you did, and then turns to wait on a busy-looking man who has just walked up to the counter beside you.
#1. Do you feel: A. Absolutely furious ("I'm gonna tell her off! And he's not much of a
gentleman!") B. Worried ("The plane's probably half-full by now!") c. Peeved and somewhat angry ("She shouldn't have done that !") D. Depressed (" I knew I should've worn my tan suit. I would've looked
more important, and they would've treated me like they did him.")
#2. What do you do?
A. Blow up. "I was here first!", and give them both an insulted look. B. Not say anything, but look at your watch, and move closer to the ticket
agent. c. Give the main a dirty look, and make certain the ticket agent hears
you exhale impatiently. D. Hand your ticket to the ticket agent while she is reaching for his
ticket, and say "I believe I'm next, ma'am."
******************
On your way to an important staff meeting with 9 of your colleagues, you are stopped by an assistant or yours who needs to know what to do about an important phone call your department has received. You stop to brief his on what should be done, and then open the door to the meeting, 5 minutes late. All are seated around & table - one person is speaking & the others are either making notes or listening.
#3. What do you do? A. Apologize for your tardiness and explain what held you up and why it
was important. B. Tiptoe to the nearest empty chair, pull it out very quietly & slip
into the chair. c. Walk to the nearest chair, sit down,& nod quietly to your colleagues. D. Close the door again very quickly & stay out, thinking up a very goog
reason for having missed the meeting entirely.
